Understanding Your Net Earnings
Your net earnings are what you actually receive after the platform fee is deducted:
The Formula
Net Earnings = Booking Price - Sicarro Service Fee
Example Calculation
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Renter pays (5 days x $50/day) | $250.00 |
| Sicarro service fee (10%) | -$25.00 |
| Your net earnings | $225.00 |
Platform Fee Structure
Sicarro charges a service fee of 10% on the rental price of every completed booking. The rate is the same for every supplier, with no tiers or volume thresholds.
Payment processing is covered by the service fee: you pay nothing extra to collect by card, by transfer to your bank account, or in Bitcoin Lightning.
Payout Methods
Bank Transfer
- Processing: Initiated 24 hours after rental completion
- Delivery: 3-5 business days to your Salvadoran bank account
- Minimum payout: $50 USD
- Supported banks: Banco Agricola, BAC Credomatic, Davivienda, Banco Cuscatlan, Banco Promerica, and others
- Currency: USD (El Salvador's official currency)
Bitcoin Lightning (via Blink Wallet)
- Processing: Initiated 24 hours after rental completion
- Delivery: Instant once processed
- Minimum payout: $1 USD equivalent
- Wallet: Blink Wallet or any Lightning-compatible wallet
- Advantage: No bank required, instant settlement, lower minimum threshold
✅ Lightning Advantage: Bitcoin Lightning payouts have a $1 minimum vs. $50 for bank transfers. This means you get paid faster and more frequently, especially when starting out with smaller bookings.
Payout Schedule
Understanding when you get paid:
- Rental completes: Renter returns the vehicle and you confirm the return
- 24-hour hold: A brief hold period allows for damage claims or disputes
- Payout initiated: If no issues are raised, your payout is automatically initiated
- Funds arrive:
- Lightning: Instantly after initiation
- Bank transfer: 3-5 business days after initiation
Payouts are batched daily. If you have multiple rentals completing on the same day, they may be combined into a single payout.
Minimum Payout Thresholds
| Method | Minimum | Speed |
|---|---|---|
| Bank Transfer | $50 USD | 3-5 business days |
| Bitcoin Lightning | $1 USD | Instant |
If your balance has not reached the minimum threshold, it carries over to the next payout cycle. You can always check your pending balance in the dashboard.
Tax Considerations
Rental income may be subject to tax in El Salvador. While Sicarro does not provide tax advice, here are some general considerations:
- Rental income is generally considered taxable income
- Keep records of all earnings and expenses for tax filing
- The earnings dashboard allows you to export reports in CSV format for your accountant
- Vehicle maintenance, insurance, cleaning, and depreciation may be deductible expenses
- Consult a local accountant for personalized tax advice
See the Tax Reporting for Suppliers article for more details.
Tips to Maximize Earnings
- Optimize pricing: Research competitor rates and adjust seasonally
- Maintain high availability: The more days your vehicle is available, the more you can earn
- Get great reviews: 5-star reviews attract more bookings at higher rates
- Respond quickly: Fast response times improve your search ranking
- Keep your listing fresh: Update photos, descriptions, and pricing regularly
- Offer weekly discounts: Longer bookings mean less handover work and more consistent income
- Add premium features: GPS, child seats, and phone mounts justify higher rates
- Capitalize on peak seasons: Raise prices during Semana Santa, surfing season (March-October), and December holidays
- Multiple vehicles: The more vehicles you list, the higher your total earning potential
- Reduce gaps: Use last-minute discounts to fill empty days between bookings
💡 Pro Tip: Suppliers who maintain 70%+ occupancy rates and 4.5+ ratings typically earn 2-3x more than the platform average. Focus on consistency and quality!
