What the price you see includes
- Use of the vehicle for each 24-hour period you book.
- Basic insurance coverage, built into the rate at no extra charge.
- The mileage allowance shown on the listing: most include unlimited mileage.
- The final price. What you see on the listing is what you pay, with no "mandatory insurance" added at the counter.
What's not included
- Fuel: you get the car with a certain level and return it at the same level.
- The deposit, if the host requires one: paid in cash at pickup, from $10 to $600 depending on the vehicle, with a median of $50. You get it back when you return the car in the same condition.
- Extra days, if you keep the car longer: you pay the host directly, and it's best to let them know ahead of time.
How to pay less without settling for less
- Compare by rental length: weekly rentals save a median of 8%, and monthly rentals 16%, compared to paying day by day.
- Book early for Holy Week (Semana Santa), July and August, and December: that's when the cheapest cars go first.
- Look at the deposit, not just the daily rate: the cheapest car listed asks for a $200 deposit, while another one at $12 more per day asks for just $50.
- If you're sticking to the city or the beach, a compact does the job of an SUV for $25 less per day.
Why our prices are lower than a rental agency's
SiCarro is a marketplace: it connects more than 65 local car owners and rental agencies with people who want to rent, and charges the host a commission. There's no airport counter, no fleet of our own to maintain, and no staff in six cities. That shows up in the final price and in the lack of add-on fees, including the infamous "mandatory insurance" many agencies tack on when you pick up the car.
